  The Haiti Criminal Collusion Act of 2023 aims to address the issue of violence in Haiti by investigating and exposing the connections between criminal gangs and influential figures in politics and the economy. The legislation requires the secretary of state to provide an annual report to Congress, detailing these ties and their implications.

     After nearly three decades of commendable dedication, Miami Beach Deputy Police Chief Wayne A. Jones was appointed chief of the department effective Sept. 1. In a unit of over 400-sworn officers, the 54-year-old makes history as the city’s first Black police chief.

     “We have been so gratified by the overwhelmingly positive reception to our Summer Sizzle events. These last few months in South Florida have certainly been hot ones, and we say, if you can’t beat them, join them!” said Ty Tabing, Director, Cultural Affairs Department. “We continue our streak with the scorching music of Uproot Hootenanny, South Florida’s premier band of string pickers, and the white-hot, blazing talent of artist Kandy G Lopez.”

     Since our Union began in 1776, the advocates of slavery recited the argument that Slavery was beneficial for Blacks. The current refrain is the Florida educational system positing that slavery was a vocational asset for Blacks. South Carolina Senator John C. Calhoun was one of the most vocal politicians advocating the benefits of slavery. In his 1837 anti-abolitionist speech he said, “Never before has the Black race of Central Africa, from the dawn of history to the present day, attained a condition so civilized and so improved, not only physically, but morally and intellectually.”

     On Wednesday, July 26, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. General President Dr. Willis, L. Lonzer, III announced the Fraternity’s decision to relocate their 99th General Convention and 119th Anniversary Convention from Orlando, Florida, citing Governor Ron DeSantis’ “harmful, racist, and insensitive policies against the Black community.”

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is accepting applications from high school students interested in arts, journalism, and marketing to join the 2023/2024 Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program. Back To School Drive 

     “Enough is enough” says Reverend R. B. Holmes, Jr., Pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Tallahassee, Florida and Chairman of the Tallahassee Chapter of the National Action Network. Reverend Holmes convened leaders in the state to take actions against these racist policies. “The Florida Department of Education’s so-called Black history curriculum is a sham, a shame and a disgrace to all Black Americans and authentic historians…”  he said. Reverend Dr. Carl Johnson, President of the Florida General Baptist Convention, Inc. and Pastor of the 93rd Street Baptist Church of Miami, Florida says “We are appalled, upset and extremely disgusted in this Governor’s consistent attack on Black culture, heritage and history”.  Civil Rights Attorney Benjamin Crump says “This irresponsible and disgraceful, so-called Black history curriculum is an insult to our ancestors and all who believe in teaching true history! This curriculum is about ideology and indoctrination!”
