April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. In recognition of its participation in raising awareness in our community, the City of Tamarac was presented with a proclamation signed by Governor Ron DeSantis. Vice Mayor Mike Gelin represented the City of Tamarac at the Broward AWARE Family Fun and Resource Fair hosted by the Children’s Services Council of Broward County (CSC). Chris Lolley, Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Florida, also presented a pin to Vice Mayor Mike Gelin to thank the city for its participation in Child Abuse Prevention Month.

     Williams wears his hair in braids and considers the style a tie to his culture and ancestors. His family has appealed local school officials’ decision not to allow him to enroll, to no avail. The family says cutting his hair isn’t an option, but they also don’t have another option for a public school to send him to because East Bernard is the closest district to their home.

     “We are deeply disturbed by allegations of discrimination that we believe do not stand up to scrutiny,” Wells Fargo said in a news release on the matter.” These unfounded attacks on Wells Fargo stand in stark contrast to the company’s significant and long-term commitment to closing the minority homeownership gap.”

     Florida A&M University (FAMU) announced a $1.2 million donation from Frank and Laura Baker to help students with financial challenges graduate in four years. The gift will establish the Frank and Laura Baker Graduation Fund, which will provide funding for students who are qualified to graduate in four years but have an outstanding account balance to the university.

      “There is nothing more beautiful than a flower in full bloom – so it is with our girls when they blossom in their full potential,” says Jackie Jordan MA, (licensed Mental Health Counselor), the author of her new children’s book, “Milani and Friends.”  The book is dedicated to her granddaughter, Milani, and all of the Queens, young and old, who has inspired her throughout this wonderful journey called life.
