TAMARAC, FL — April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. In recognition of its participation in raising awareness in our community, the City of Tamarac was presented with a proclamation signed by Governor Ron DeSantis. Vice Mayor Mike Gelin represented the City of Tamarac at the Broward AWARE Family Fun and Resource Fair hosted by the Children’s Services Council of Broward County (CSC). Chris Lolley, Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Florida, also presented a pin to Vice Mayor Mike Gelin to thank the city for its participation in Child Abuse Prevention Month.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect. Through collaboration with organizations such as the CSC and Prevent Child Abuse Florida, Tamarac is helping to strengthen local families to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing prevention services and support to help protect children and produce thriving families.

“Every child deserves to feel safe and loved; yet so many do not at the hands of abuse and neglect,” said Gelin. “I am honored to represent the City of Tamarac and work with these resourceful community organizations to help make our community safer for our children.”

CSC is an independent taxing authority established by voter referendum in 2000 and reauthorized in 2014. Its mission is to provide leadership, advocacy, and resources necessary to enhance the lives of the children of Broward County and empower them to become responsible, productive adults through collaborative planning and funding of a continuum of quality care.

Prevent Child Abuse Florida is part of The Ounce of Prevention Fund of Florida and is also affiliated with Circle of Parents. Ounce of Prevention Fund is a public-private partnership, blending state and private dollars and investing them in innovative, community-based programs that serve at-risk children and their families.
