Art Prevails Project kicks off the summer with their captivating play ‘Seeking.’ This unique production weaves together the enchanting elements of music and magic, creating a spellbinding narrative that chronicles a young musician’s quest for independence. As he navigates an ever-changing world, he uncovers the profound influence of his family’s past on his future. Following its successful staged reading in 2022, ‘Seeking’ returns to the Amaturo Theatre at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts as a full production, promising an unforgettable experience.

The Biden administration is moving forward with a proposal that would require heat protections for workers across the country, after Gov. Ron DeSantis this spring signed a controversial law barring Florida local government from imposing such requirements on businesses.

     Hayward Hadley was born 17 Jun 1880 in Cairo, Grady County, Georgia to Harless Hadley and Mary Ellen Walton. Hayward married Victoria Farmer on 4 Oct 1908 in Jefferson County, Florida. She was born in 1890 in Jefferson County, Florida to Alex Farmer and Jennie Patton. They had 11 children. Victoria died in 1942. On 4 Mar 1944 when Hayward was 63, he second married Mable Willaford, in Bradenton, FL. No children were born to this union. Hayward died in 1967.

Victor G. Harvey, the owner of Black-owned Victor George Spirits held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 25th in Fort Lauderdale. This new building will be named The Victory Building after the historic Victory Theatre, once located on historic Sistrunk Blvd.  The 15,000 square foot facility will house a distillery, restaurant, cigar bar, whiskey lounge, event space and a rooftop bar and lounge located at 1017 Sistrunk Boulevard.   Harvey was joined at the groundbreaking event by Clarence Woods (CRA Manager), Pam Beasley–Pittman (City of Fort Lauderdale Commissioner District 3), Steven Glassman (City of Fort Lauderdale Commissioner District 2), Robert McKinzie (Broward County Commissioner District 8), Dan Lindblade (CEO, Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce) and several members of the community.

Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D) visited North Lauderdale City Hall last Monday to present a historic $750,000 federal check, marking the city’s first-ever congressional appropriation. The funds will be used to install a license plate reader surveillance system, a technology that will enhance safety for the city’s 44,000 residents. The system will provide real-time information to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, aiding investigations and ensuring swift response to criminal activity.

Pompano Beach Arts and South Bar and Kitchen are throwing the ultimate summer bash – the Backyard Jam Concert Series! With Old Town Untapped on summer hiatus, the restaurant team and Cultural Affairs Department created a new event featuring a tasty mix of live music, delicious Southern bites, frosty craft cocktails and pure good times every first and third Friday this July, August and September. The Backyard Jam Concert Series kicks off July 5th with the electrifying Sacred Union Band! Get ready to groove to a killer setlist featuring everything from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Prince, Hall & Oates to Foo Fighters, even a dash of Etta James for good measure. This free event runs from 6-10 pm, so grab your friends and head to Old Town’s Backyard for the summer’s hottest nights! South will be offering food and drink specials.

Students at McGill’s K-12 private school in Lauderdale Lakes study core subjects like math and English in addition to what McGill calls “the good stuff”: fashion, beauty and content creation, a class where students learn how to promote their work on social media. Access can be an issue for students of color pursuing careers in fashion, and McGill wants to empower students of all backgrounds to pursue their dreams.

Pray and seek guidance when needed; peer pressure is at every corner. College has the power to shape your future, either positively or negatively. Staying consistent with your work and studying is significant, but so is engaging in the various activities hosted on campus weekly.
