Over the past five decades, we have not only grown but thrived—thanks to the unwavering support of dedicated staff members, community partners, loyal stakeholders, and, of course, the individuals and families who have walked this journey with us.

“The idea of dismantling the U.S. Department of Education is a blow to the heart of educators and children across this nation. It’s more than a slap in the face — it’s a declaration of war on the future of our children, a betrayal of every teacher who pours their soul into shaping young minds, and a cruel death sentence for students who rely on our public schools.
For decades, the African American community in Fort Lauderdale has contributed to the city’s culture, economy, and history. Yet, many still face challenges, including economic inequality, lack of generational wealth, and barriers to business ownership. The key to overcoming these obstacles lies in collaboration, investment in local Black-owned businesses, mentorship, and civic engagement.
ArtServe recently celebrated the opening of its first exhibit of 2025, “Burnout and Black Artists: Emotional Sustainability in the Arts,” bringing together a diverse audience from the local South Florida community for an evening of live music, dance and thought-provoking art.
In 2013, Pam Bondi’s office had the opportunity to hold Trump University accountable for its fraudulent practices, which scammed thousands of Americans out of their hard-earned money. Many victims, including retirees and working-class citizens, lost their life savings to what was promised as a surefire path to financial success. Instead, they were left with mounting debts and empty promises.
The budget proposes several tax decreases, including a new tax holiday for guns and ammo during the Summer months, called “Second Amendment Summer.” It also calls for the cancellation of more than $2 million in funding for the Black Business Loan Program, which provides loans for “Black business enterprises that cannot obtain capital through conventional lending institutions but that could otherwise compete successfully in the private sector,” according to Florida State Statute.
Hinton and her team are actively exploring partnerships with historically Black colleges and universities to expand opportunities and solidify HillmanTok’s place in the educational landscape.
The Miami HUBZone Business Summit, held at the UNI Tower on Jan. 29, 2025, brought together small business owners, policymakers and economic experts to explore how the Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) Program can fuel small business growth and revitalize underserved areas. The summit’s theme, “Fueling Miami’s Growth — Unlocking Opportunities for Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs,” aimed to equip entrepreneurs and business owners with the knowledge to leverage HUBZone benefits, including federal contracting opportunities, grants and resources.
Geraldine Whittington (1931-1993), known to most as Gerri, is a notable woman of the Civil Rights Era. She left her mark on history as the first African American secretary to a U.S. President in the White House.
