Recently, Vice President Harris announced that she would address the NAACP’s 114th National Convention in Boston, Massachusetts (7/26-8/2). NAACP President & CEO Derrick Johnson released the following statement celebrating the VP’s return to NAACP Convention:

The annual Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) competition will return to the main stage for the NAACP’s 114th National Convention in Boston. The ACT-SO competition is the culmination of a year’s worth of local programs hosted by NAACP branches across the country, which brings mentoring and scholastic enrichment to youth while fostering community, achievement, and excellence within Black communities. 

The harrowing video shows 23-year-old Jadarrius Rose obeying orders from troopers to get on his knees and keep his hands in the air. Despite complying with the commands, Rose became the victim of a police dog attack, further fueling concerns about law enforcement’s excessive use of force.

The NAACP’s 114th National Convention will feature a panel discussion entitled “Hate Has No Home Here – A Moderated Conversation on Racism, Antisemitism, and Building Bridges to Fight All Hate” focused on the intersectionality of racial justice and the continued rise in hate crimes. Prominent figures and experts in the field including Chairman of the Kraft Group and Founder of the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, Robert Kraft, Professor Henry Louis Gates, and criminal justice reform advocate Meek Mill will delve into the challenges and importance of combating racial injustice and hate crimes in a conversation moderated by Joy Taylor.
