Activists in Georgia say a new bill being proposed by five state lawmakers will lead to the mass incarceration of children as young as 13. It’s known as the Gang Bill (House Bill 994), and it was sponsored by State Representatives Bert Reeves, Barry Fleming, Chuck Efstration, Andy Welch, and Ginny Ehrhart.

     Only journalists of color received an invitation to the event, which included remarks from Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Doug Jones (D-Ala.), Bob Casey (D-Pa.), and several others. The senators said they wanted to open the floor to issues that pertain mostly to African Americans.

      San Francisco and surrounding counties totaling 6.7 million people will prohibit anyone from leaving their homes “except for essential needs” beginning at midnight Monday night.

     This weekend was supposed to be one of American sports’ busiest with golf, tennis, the NBA, the NHL, MLS and dozens of spring collegiate sports leading up to the grand drama and madness that is the NCAA basketball tournament. Instead, March Madness is canceled and ESPN is already airing old games on a loop. It’s a dark time for sports fans, who have become accustomed to having sports available every single day of the year. It is bizarre and disorienting for them to be gone. My son and I have taken to watching the computer play itself on the video game “MLB: The Show 20.” He hasn’t started putting wagers on the games yet but give him time.

  Because of that, in 2008, Derrica and Natalie started the nonprofit Black and Missing Foundation with a mission to bring awareness to missing persons of color and to provide vital resources and tools to missing persons’ families and friends.

     Dennard, a longtime GOP political commentator, writer, consultant, and strategist, will work to ensure that African Americans and other minorities are aware of President Trump’s efforts to support their communities.

  “I was sitting at home and brainstorming on things that I needed to do, and then the phone started to ring,” stated Rory Gamble, a welder fixture repairman, who joined the UAW in 1974 when he worked at the Ford Motor Co. Dearborn (Mich.) Frame Plant. “The local NAACP chapter president called, and others,” noted Gamble, who in December was named the 13th president of the 85-year-old union.  “It hit me then that, ‘Hey, you’re the first African American president,’” Gamble recalled. “It struck me like a rock. It’s a great accomplishment.”

The White House announced Tuesday that it wants to give Americans checks in order to combat the economic devastation many will feel amid the coronavirus outbreak.

     “To ensure a successful and inclusive election, we call on Georgia election officials to employ an open and transparent process that allows all voices to be heard and protects voters’ rights during the May 19th primary. We are deeply committed to seeing Georgia through a safe and complete primary election process and welcome the opportunity to work with state and local election officials to ensure that all Georgians have a full and fair chance to exercise their right to vote.”
