Alexis Donald, MD, a trailblazing African American medical doctor and advocate for empowering young minds, is thrilled to announce the release of her highly anticipated children’s book, Mommy I Want to be a Doctor. Based on her own remarkable journey, this captivating story encourages children to dream big, believe in themselves, and fearlessly pursue their aspirations.

The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) recognized Audrey Peterman with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Conservation, Education and Justice at their annual conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, November 7. The NAAEE is the professional association and champion for environmental education, working with professionals around the world to advance environmental literacy and civic engagement to create a more equitable and sustainable future.

Black Public Media, the Harlem-based national media arts nonprofit that funds, distributes and develops Black film, television and immersive projects, is propelling creative technologists and Black stories into the future. Determined to raise the visibility of Black makers who use technology to make art, films and experiences, the organization’s immersive media unit, BPMplus, returns to Torrents: New Links to Black Futures, a popular arts and culture festival produced annually by CulturalDC. Building on the success of its standing-room only 2023 Torrents panel, the arts nonprofit is expanding its BPMplus Art & Tech Showcase this year to include two panels, featuring seven makers from three continents. The free event, which takes place on Saturday, November 16, from noon to 4:30 p.m. will be held at and sponsored by Songbyrd Music House in Washington. A networking mixer will follow the showcase.

At nearly 100 years old, Unci Rita Long Visitor Holy Dance finally fulfilled a lifelong dream on October 21 when she walked across the stage in a cap and gown to receive her high school diploma. The celebration took place at the Rio Rancho High School Performing Arts Center, where a crowd of family, friends, and community members gathered to witness this milestone.
