Barbara Arnwine, who founded and leads the Transformative Justice Coalition (www.tjcoalition.org) gathered dozens of activists to participate in a day-long strategy session on voting rights on August 7, fifty-four years after the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965. Arnwine’s organization is among the many planning to ensure both voter turnout and election fairness in the upcoming elections.

The Founding Fathers sought to prevent our Nation from ever being ruled by a King or dictator. Thus, they established and codified in the Constitution three separate co-equal branches of government: the Legislative, Executive, and the Judicial. Notably, to this system of government, the highest power for managing the country resides with the people. Also, Congress, which is comprised of the Senate and House of Representatives, has the power to remove an unfit President from office.

In 2018, Ex-Mayor Andrew Gillum of Tallahassee ran for Governor of Florida and lost by less than 40,000 votes. This is a phenomenal achievement, and the Florida Democratic leadership should be courting and talking to local Black Democratic leaders about a plan to get more grassroots Blacks to the polls.
A second major disclosure of major consumer data breach was announced on July 29 by Capital One Bank. That same day, the FBI arrested a suspect charged with stealing the personal information on March 22 and 23. The apparent focus of the financial theft was credit card applications filed with the bank between 2005-2019.

The President’s racist and sexist attacks on Representatives Ilana Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib are vile, vicious and unprecedented verbal violence against American citizens and Congressional leaders by a sitting occupant of the Oval Office. The President’s remarks about these extraordinary women were not only disrespectful and destructive; they demean the office that he holds.
