  On Sunday,  August 21, 2022,  under the astute, sagacious leadership of Pastor Trae Green,  Mt. Hermon AME Church Fort Lauderdale  collaborated with several non- profit organizations in the surrounding communities to introduce church members and stakeholders to various programs, many of which the public may have been  dubiously unaware, for qualified citizens.

     We are saddened to hear of the recent passing of Julie Hunter, Broward County Library’s former Associate Director for Public Service. The recipient of the Florida Library Association’s 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award, Julie came to Broward County in 2002 as the executive director of the newly opened African American Research Library and Cultural Center. Prior to that, she held a similar position at the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History in Atlanta, Georgia. She was promoted to Associate Director in 2007 and retired from Broward County in 2013 after 47 years as an esteemed library professional.

     Matthew Majestic Hyde was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 8, 1986, and died on July 14, 2022. He is fondly remembered by his parents Michael C. Hyde and Renee Pfeilsticker, his son Jabari Bonane, his younger brother Michael J. Hyde, nephew Kayden Hyde, and extended family, as well as a wide circle of friends who loved him deeply.

     White America has always struggled with the role of the Black church, because Black Christianity told the truth about racism and injustice. White Christianity remained quiet about the treatment of Black people, and White supremacy was never questioned but accepted.
