     “Nathaniel Jones is a pioneer who has never failed to stand for the rights of people denied a chance to be a part of the process,” said Roslyn A. Brock, chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors. “His distinguished career serves as inspiration to our thousands of youth leaders working to end the profound segregation that continues to exist in our society to this day.

   Jimmy Heath was a legendary jazz saxophonist who played with jazz giants John Coltrane and Miles Davis. Heath stood 5’3” and was called ‘little bird” for his size and great skill in tribute to the legendary saxophone player Charlie Parker, who was nicknamed “Bird.” Overcoming an addiction to heroin, Heath was a prolific musician for over seven decades and a pioneer of be-bop. He later taught music at Queens College.   

     Anathia specialized in exceptional student education with emphasis on emotionally disturbed/socially maladjusted students, music instruction and therapy, and special education core curriculum.  Anathia worked for Broward County Schools for thirty years and was awarded Sunset Learning Center Teacher of the Year in 1985 and 1986.

The era of Black caddies ruling the tour fairways is a distant memory and there are only a few of the big legends still alive. Today, marks the announcement of sad news in the caddie world, as we have learned about the passing of caddie legend Alfred “Rabbit” Dyer in November.

  Beverly deeply cherished her family and her role as the family historian and record keeper. She was a proud member of the Harlan-McBride community, where she had many loving neighbors and friends. Beverly loved to eat, talk, and fellowship. She enjoyed connecting with people and collecting various memorabilia. She also enjoyed gardening and was an avid, lifelong fan of the Miami Heat. Beverly was an active member of Plantation Baptist Church and the American Lung Association’s Better Breathers Club.

     According to a recent study,Black women have three times the risk of sudden cardiac death compared to White women. That’s why the American Heart Association, with the help of its sponsor, WW International, Inc. (Weight Watchers Reimagined) is establishing the EmPOWERED & Well Healthier Church Challenge to support and expand the ongoing health and wellness activities of Black women and their faith-based communities in Los Angeles.
