This is how the City of Lauderhill did it for their residents at the 9th Annual Jammin’ in the Park concert, featuring headliners Montell Jordan, Gyptian, and Gucci Crew II on Saturday, April 22.  This free event took place at Central Broward Park and Broward County Stadium.  Jammin’ in the Park paired national touring acts with local artists for this family friendly event.  Fans were encouraged to bring their own chairs to enjoy the non-stop entertainment that lasted through the evening.  Other featured artists included the Old Skool Gang, Lenora Jaye, and Blade Martin & the Sons of David.  DJ Big Man Kelly kept the crowd entertained between sets, spinning hits on the 1s and 2s.

The City of Lauderhill in partnership with Lauderhill Healthy You provided attendees with health and wellness information and COVID-19 prevention.  The City of Lauderhill acknowledged although the worst of the pandemic eased, preventative measures are imperative for the community.  Local food and business vendors were present to serve the residents throughout the day.  Lauderhill’s elected officials and representatives were also in attendance to greet and entertain the crowd, including, Commissioner Denise D. Grant, Commissioner Robert McKenzie, Commissioner Ray Matin, Commissioner Melissa P. Dunn, and Commissioner “Jabbow” Martin.

Jamaican reggae Singer Gyptian

Jamaican reggae singer Gyptian, born Windel Beneto Edwards, performed hits like “Serious Times,” “Beautiful Lady,” and “Wine Slow”.  Gyptian closed out his performance by singing his biggest hit “Hold Yuh” as the crowd sang and danced along enthusiastically.  Gyptian’s performance captivated the crowd with every song.

Montell Jordan was the close-out performer and had the crowd jamming to songs from the mid 90’s to early 2000’s, with classic R&B joints like “Get It On Tonight,” “Falling”, and “Something for 4 the Honeyz”. Before closing the show with his smash hit, “This Is How We Do It”, Montell paused to give credit to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  He told the crowd “music is the soundtrack of our lives” and some of his hit songs brought back good memories, while other songs brought back bad memories.  He reminded the audience he is an ordained Pastor and slightly changed the lyrics to some of his songs to be consistent with his faith.  He also invited the audience to worship with him on Sunday evenings at live.masterpiecechurch.com.  Montell and his wife Kristin Jordan are the founding and lead pastors of Master Peace Church (“MPC”) in Dacula, GA.  MPC is a virtual House Church, delivering the gospel from their living room to the global church at large, via streaming technology.
