WASHINGTON D.C. — Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) released a statement following the release of police footage depicting the tragic murder of Tyre Nichols, a 29 year old Memphis man, who was violently attacked by several police officers during what should have been a routine traffic stop.

In a statement, Congressman Frost says:

“My heart breaks for the Nichols family and for Tyre’s friends and loved ones, who tonight had to watch the violent and senseless murder of someone who should still be with them today.

“This video makes clear that our system is not working right now. Body cameras and more training are simply not enough. Police officers abused their power on the job and beat an American to death in our streets.

“We need to change the culture of policing in our country. Violence is not and can never be the answer.

“No one should die for simply getting pulled over.

“Tyre Nichols should be alive today.”
