Important to Know
- Cases are rising again in Florida. The average daily number of new infections has risen steadily over the past three weeks.
- Hospitalizations are increasing. The number of available ICU beds have dropped steadily in the past two weeks.
- As the number of new cases increase, the rate of death will also increase.
- The coronavirus survives better in colder weather, as the virus can remain suspended in colder, dryer air for much longer. The risk of infection will increase as we enter winter.
- The advent of flu season will increase the risk of a simultaneous flu/Covid-19 superinfection, and ultimately, a severe Covid-19 illness.
Disease mitigation efforts are critical for protection against infection:
- Practice social distancing. Stay at least 6 feet away from others. Avoid handshakes, hugs, and other close contact activities which may facilitate viral spread.
- Wear a mask when out and about in public. Completely cover nose and mouth with the mask.
- Practice good hand hygiene. Wash hands with soap and water after touching “high traffic” surfaces. Use hand sanitizers if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid crowded indoor locations, wherever possible. Outside activities are safer than indoor activities.
Remain vigilant, especially as we enter the colder winter season!
