    USA

    9.2 million cases, 231,003 deaths

    Florida

    807,412 cases, 49,404 total hospitalizations, 16,789 deaths

    Broward

    86,163 cases, 6,199 total hospitalizations, 1,526 deaths

    • There were 28,776 new coronavirus cases in Florida last week.
    • There was an average of 4,100 daily new cases over the last week.

    Important to Know

    • Cases are rising again in Florida. The average daily number of new infections has risen steadily over the past three weeks.
    • Hospitalizations are increasing. The number of available ICU beds have dropped steadily in the past two weeks.
    • As the number of new cases increase, the rate of death will also increase.
    • The coronavirus survives better in colder weather, as the virus can remain suspended in colder, dryer air for much longer. The risk of infection will increase as we enter winter.
    • The advent of flu season will increase the risk of a simultaneous flu/Covid-19 superinfection, and ultimately, a severe Covid-19 illness.

Disease mitigation efforts are critical for protection against infection:

    • Practice social distancing. Stay at least 6 feet away from others. Avoid handshakes, hugs, and other close contact activities which may facilitate viral spread.
    • Wear a mask when out and about in public. Completely cover nose and mouth with the mask.
    • Practice good hand hygiene. Wash hands with soap and water after touching “high traffic” surfaces. Use hand sanitizers if soap and water are not available.
    • Avoid crowded indoor locations, wherever possible. Outside activities are safer than indoor activities.

Remain vigilant, especially as we enter the colder winter season!
