BROWARD COUNTY, FL – The County has received 18 Achievement Awards, including Best in Category for Broward County Transit’s Paratransit Rider’s Choice Pilot program from the National Association of Counties (NACo). These awards of achievement honor innovative and effective County government programs that strengthen services for residents.

Transit’s Paratransit Riders Choice Program won the award for its program criteria which fill in the gaps of the County’s transportation system for existing customers offering enhanced service. This service is part of the Transportation Options Program (TOPS) for persons with physical, cognitive, emotional, visual, or other disabilities which functionally prevent them from using the regular fixed-route bus system.

“Our transit team has worked tirelessly to advance transportation equity, independence, and inclusion for Broward’s paratransit eligible residents by making it possible for customers to choose how, where and when they want to travel.” said Paul Strobis, the Strobis, the Director of Paratransit at the County. “Our customers needed more flexible, less restrictive transportation options for doctor’s appointments, trips to the grocery store and visiting family – transportation conveniences most of us take for granted every day. We would also like to congratulate the nine other county agencies that also won achievement awards. To be recognized by NACo is a great honor and we should all be proud.”

Broward County is fortunate to have creative team members who work diligently to ensure the programs and services offered to residents are effectively communicated and relevant. The award-winning programs are all services of the Broward County Commission.

The following County agencies are being recognized for 2021 achievement awards:

    • Broward County’s Port Everglades – Four awards
    • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport – Three awards
    • Planning & Development Management Division
    • Cultural Division
    • Environmental Planning and Community Resilience – Two awards
    • Broward Addiction and Recovery Center
    • Animal Care and Adoption
    • Libraries
    • Transit
    • Risk Management – Two awards

Nationally, awards are given in 18 different categories that reflect the vast, comprehensive services counties provide. The categories include children and youth, criminal justice and public safety, county resiliency, risk management, health, civic engagement and more. The County will be honored in July at the NACo’s Annual Conference and Exposition. Stay tuned for more details on these well-deserved awards.
