Edward Waters University is a private Christian-based HBCU in Jacksonville, Florida, founded in 1866 by African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME Church) members as a school to educate the newly freed black people and their children. In 2019, the university was invited to join the SIAC, a historic Division II HBCU athletic conference. The 2024 season will see Edward Waters become full members of the SIAC and NCAA Division II after their three-year mandated transitional period after moving from the NAIA. Jacksonville, The country will be well acquainted with Edward Waters football during the 2024 campaign as head coach Toriano Morgan and the Tigers will be featured on various broadcasting networks. Thanks to the SIAC’s broadcasting agreement with both ESPN and HBCUGO, five of the Tigers’ 10 contests will be shown on network television.
The Tiger’s first contest of the season on August 31st on the road in Atlanta against Morehouse will be shown on ESPN+. EWU’s lone Thursday night contest on the road against defending SIAC champion Benedict will be on ESPNU on September 19th. The highly anticipated home rematch against Tuskegee on September 28th will be aired on the new HBCUGO Network, while both EWU’s October 5th home contest against Fort Valley State and the November 9th Homecoming/AME Football Classic matchup against rival Allen will both be aired on ESPN+.
