This week was another loss for the Dolphins. After getting blown out last week, they put up a goose egg on the score-board while the Patriots scored 43 points. It was supposed to be an intense rivalry game that started out competitive and all hell broke loose in the second half. In the first two games the Dolphins have given up a total of 102 points.

The Dolphins’ defense was able to hold the Patriots offense to 13 points in the first half. The defense tried their best to keep the team in the game, but they could only hold on for so long.Ā  Head coach Brian Flores offered his thoughts on how the defense looked.Ā ā€œI thought they played hard. Like you said, I thought they played hard. I thought the communication was better, the tackling was better. I thought they played hard, and it’s a good offense. We got them off the field a couple of times. It’s a great quarterback, you guys know that. They’ve got great skill players. They made some plays, and I thought the defense played hard. I thought as a team, we played hard. They fought all the way to the end. We’ve just got to continue to do that, and things will turn.ā€ The offense’s inability to take advantage of a 7 point first quarter and a 6 point second quarter caused the second half avalanche. Ryan Fitzpatrick struggled from his first snap until he was benched in the fourth quarter. He was 11 for 21 with 89 yards and 3 interceptions, while also getting sacked 4 times. Josh Rosen took over in the fourth going 7 for 18 with 97 passing yards and 1 interception, getting sacked 3 times. He had some nice passes but some were dropped. After the team’s poor start to the season, a change at quarterback is needed. Josh Rosen was drafted with the 10th pick of the first round in the 2018 NFL Draft, spending one year in Arizona before he was traded to Miami. Some fans consider him a bust, but one year isn’t always enough time for a fair assessment. Ryan Fitzpatrick had a chance to show he was a capable quarterback, but he was blown out both times and couldn’t put together a scoring drive in the second game. It’s time to give Josh Rosen a chance; he’s still young and has 14 games to show what he can do when given a full game to start. Not only the passing game, but the running game was abysmal. Kenyan Drake only had 19 yards rushing on 6 carries. The backup running back, Mark Walton, had 15 yards on 3 carries. Against a good defense that performance is not going to cut it.

Next week the Dolphins have another tough game, a road game against the Cowboys. They have to put this loss behind them and prepare for Dallas. So how do they turn the page for next game? Coach Brian Flores has the answer.

ā€œWe’ll just come back to work tomorrow, come in, we’ll make the corrections on today’s film and we’ll come back Wednesday,ā€ he says. Ā ā€œI thought we had a better week of practice. But at the end of the day, it’s about our production in games. We’ll just come back, we’ll go to work, we’ll make the corrections, we’ll get better, we’ll improve – and it’s disappointing. Those guys are disappointed. They work hard. They put in a lot of work. But we’ve just got to play better.ā€ The defense looked improved from the last game; the offense has not looked any better. If the defense can hold Ezekiel Elliot to under 100 yards rushing, they have a chance to win the game, but the offense can’t continue to be as poor as they were in the first two games. It’s going to be a tough game, but it’s not impossible.
