Community projects

Time:

All class participants of Leadership Broward (LB) are required to participate on a community project team. The purpose of this project team is to give them an opportunity to learn first-hand about an organization that supports the community. Additionally, the project provides LB class members the opportunity to engage in a process that will result in a quantifiable benefit to both the organization and the community.

The Sistrunk Food Cooperative

We are a group of growers, chefs, and gardeners located along the Sistrunk corridor in Fort Lauderdale. Our goal is to raise awareness of fruits and vegetables that can easily be grown in our community. We are committed to the adage: Grow what we eat… Eat what we grow.

The Sistrunk Food Cooperative was formed in 2023 by the founders of three organizations that believed in the power of Mother Nature and the bounty of South.

Florida: Varian Robuson from the B.O.Y. Garden, Sharon Allen from Blue Tree Cafe, and Leann Barber from Made in Broward. We collectively had a vision that residents of the Sistrunk Corridor could be emboldened to learn about the beautiful and healthy foods that we can grow in our place, and that by doing so, we will develop a healthier and more vibrant community.
