“The biggest challenge recruiting 4 and 5-star athletes are the facilities,” Rispress told HBCU Gameday at last year’s game against Alabama State.

FAMU Recruiting Director, Devin Rispress courtesy of Tallahassee Democrat Colorado has gained a major key HBCU Football official to its staff! Florida A&M‘s Athletic Recruiting Director, Devin Rispress announced his departure on Thursday evening. Rispress will join Head Coach Deion Sanders at the University of Colorado.

In his statement via Twitter, Rispress wrote: “It has been said that, sometimes, life comes at you fast… And i feel that wholeheartedly. As of today, I am resigning as the Football Director of Recruiting at Florida A&M University and accepting a position with the University of Colorado Buffaloes.“

Rispress joined Florida A&M at the beginning of the 2021 season, the first to hold such position. Previously at Gadsen County High, Rispress came to FAMU with a strong reputation for interacting with prospective student athletes. Rispress helped lead FAMU to may key talents that impacted this year’s 12-1 record season.

“Also the advent of NIL and young men wanting to live out their dreams they have had since they were kids to play at the bigger schools. I came up with the same dreams, but the game has changed now. Kids don’t have to chase logos, here at FAMU we receive the same exposure as the Power 5 schools in many respects. We play in NFL stadiums and NFL scouts are beating down the door to see the talent here.”

The Tallahassee native has been described as FAMU’s “recruiting ace” among the HBCU community. His departure adds to the growing concern for the current state of FAMU football team amid head coach Willie Simmons’ recent departure from FAMU.

@DEIONSANDERS OF ALL THE 5 STARS YOU’VE SIGNED OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS THIS MAY BE YOUR BIGGEST ONE YET. @COACH2BLESS IS A ROCKSTAR AND ALL I CAN SAY IS EVERYONE BETTER WATCH OUT BECAUSE WITH YOU TWO TOGETHER… SHEESH!!! I’M SO HAPPY FOR MY BOY AND I KNOW HE’LL DO GREAT THINGS IN…

Simmons, who spoke highly of Rispress following his departure, announced his new position at Duke on January 1. James Colzie has been named interim coach. However, no word or announcement has been made on Rispress’ replacement as of yet.
