Fort Lauderdale Firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a 2 story commercial building at 11 SW 15 St around 4:35 a.m. Monday morning. Upon arrival, firefighters forced entry to the building to find smoke throughout the structure and fire on the first floor. The fire was quickly extinguished and crew’s ensured there was no fire extension to the second floor. The first floor had moderate to heavy fire and smoke damage.

The building, known as The Gilliam House, was added to the US National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Fire investigators were on the scene and the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
