Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University National Alumni Association Convention

To discuss transitioning FAMU into a new era: With unified purpose

    The Florida A&M University (FAMU) National Alumni Association (FAMU-NAA) has planned an exciting agenda that will include a town hall meeting and student recruitment fair during its 2013 FAMU National Alumni Convention. The convention will be held May 16-18, 2013 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Guest speakers and friends of the university will inspire Rattlers to embrace the convention theme: “Transitioning Into A New Era With Unified Purpose.”

The FAMU-NAA National Alumni Convention Committee has worked diligently to orchestrate a high quality, informative, and enjoyable convention. The three-day event is filled with workshops and activities will reignite, renew and reenergize the “Ole Rattler” spirit.  Attendees will have the opportunity to reconnect with friends and classmates while taking pleasure in the many offerings of South Florida.

“We are excited that the Florida Region along with the Broward County Alumni Chapter will serve as our hosts,” said Gregory Clark, 1st Vice President for the FAMU-NAA and Convention Chairman. “We invite the entire FAMU community to come and meet the officers of FAMU National Alumni Association, the current university administration and fellowship with Rattlers from across the country. It is imperative that we get involved and play an integral role in the future of the National Alumni Association and our illustrious university. “The Broward County Alumni with assistance of surrounding chapters have worked non-stop to make sure this is a conference to remember” said Mary Smith, Broward Alumni President.

Scheduled activities includes:

Welcome Reception — Bonaventure Resort and Spa – Thursday, May 16, 8 p.m.

Student Recruitment — New Mount Olive Baptist Church – Thursday May 16, 6 p.m.

Life Membership Breakfast – Friday, May 17, 8 a.m., Workshops – 10 a.m.,

NAA President Luncheon – 12 noon, General Body Meeting – 2 p.m., a Rattler Roundup Alumni Social 8 p.m., and Young Alumni Social 9 p.m. The University President’s Fundraising Brunch is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m., as well as the State of the University Address. FAMU’s new head football coach will also be introduced, followed by a town hall meeting to discuss the university’s future.

Saturday will also include a “Lu-wow” hosted by the Bro-ward Alumni Chapter at the hotel poolside 6 to 9 p.m. The convention will also include a marketplace and special performance by the FAMU Music Department.

In an effort to foster a spirit of loyalty, fraternity and scholarship, the mission of the FAMU-NAA is to promote the continuous active interest in and support of FAMU, to effect united action on behalf of and for the general welfare of FAMU as an educational institution of higher learning. With more than 60 chapters located throughout the country, the FAMU-NAA has provided more than $1 million in scholarship money and other financial support to FAMU.
