    (Source HBCU):

Florida A&M pitcher Hunter Viets will continue his career after signing an MLB contract with the Chicago Cubs.

Viets recorded an 8-2 record in 16 starts over 91 1/3 innings in 2023. He allowed 99 hits, struck out 81 batters, and posted a 3.45 ERA.

The highlight of his senior season was a seven-inning, five strikeout performance in the SWAC Championship Game versus Bethune-Cookman. Viets was named to the 2023 SWAC All-Tournament team and was once again named to the All-SWAC Second Team for the second season.

Viets was also one of four Florida A&M players selected to play in the inaugural HBCU Swingman Classic during the MLB All-Star Game in Seattle last season.
