GOP candidates must condemn ‘War on Police’

What an opportunity!

Pastor Corey Brooks, a prominent Black Chicago pastor believes the Black community has been forsaken by the Democratic Party and has invited Republican presidential candidates to the visit his neighborhood to inform voters and make them more aware of the political landscape.

So why is Brooks doing this. In his own words:

“We have a large, disproportionate number of people who are impoverished. We have a disproportionate number of people who are incarcerated, we have a disproportionate number of people who are unemployed, the educational system has totally failed, and all of this primarily has been under Democratic regimes in our neighborhoods.

“How can our neighborhoods be doing so awful and so bad when we’re so loyal to this party? It’s a matter of them taking complete advantage of our vote . . . Our communities are suffering.”

He added that some of “our communities are some of the worst in the country. Most of the major cities are run by the Democrats.”

So how do Democrats deal with the problems Pastor Brooks points out?

Taking a card out of the Obama-Holder-Sharpton race-baiting deck of racial division, Hillary Clinton is offering more of the same — blaming Republicans for trying to keep Blacks from voting and even mass incarceration as reasons for the urban upheaval.

The question is how will the GOP candidates respond to this racialization of our country by liberals and Democrats in a “war on police” pitting communities against the police and police against communities. Notice that Hillary and her cohorts have little if anything to say on this hot issue — because they own the problems their liberal policies helped to create.

So where are the GOP candidates? Do any of them have any solutions or comments on the growing racial polarization, urban decay, anti-cop sentiment, growing disrespect for authority and high unemployment rates of Blacks and Hispanics in our major cities?

I know it is early in the 2016 race for the White House and for most of them the last thing on their donors and advisers’ minds is discussing issues related to urban affairs — there aren’t that many Black or Hispanic voters in most GOP primary states.

But that is not the point.

The point is that if they want to be president of the United States, what are their remedies for uniting our country and ending the racial polarization, race baiting, and classism rhetoric of Democrats and especially Hillary Clinton? White GOP voters in primary states like Iowa and New Hampshire are not blind to Ferguson, Baltimore, Cleveland, and the most recent controversy in McKinney, Texas.

These candidates cannot run and hide from these issues and leave solutions and comment to Democrats and racial demagogues of the left.

So the question is which one, if any, will step up to the leadership plate and:

  • Condemn the “throw the cops under the bus” rhetoric of many Democratic politicians and activists which is empowering criminals, demoralizing police, and putting the lives and property of law abiding citizens — of all colors — at risk
  • Say that communities need the police and the police need the community in a partnership of mutual respect and equal enforcement of the law
  • Tell us how they would use the Department of Justice to attack gang violence and the “killing fields” in our major cities which, if not curtailed, will spread beyond inner city neighborhoods.

Which of the GOP candidates will accept Pastor Brooks’ offer, deliver the above message, and offer solutions to the problems he outlined? Rand Paul already has taken Brooks up on his invitation.

The others should as well!
