Gun Massacres & Violence is the New Way of American Life

Millions of Americans have a gun, and they carry it almost everywhere they go. At any point, many of these Americans have mental health issues, or many times they get upset and they pull their gun out. In a restaurant an individual will pull out their gun if the waiter puts in the wrong order, or it is taking too long. Guns have taken over our lives, and there is a fixation with guns, and they think it will fix or solve a problem.

Americans have become numb to gun violence and mass killings. They happen every day, and there is nothing we can do. When President Biden gets in front of millions of Americans with no plan to curtail killings, there must be nothing we can do. When Senator Chris Murphy goes on the floor and begs for support from his colleagues, but no action is taken, there must be nothing we can do.

In the last two weeks, there have been two mass killings, and everyone is starting to talk about acting on gun-control. This has happened numerous times before, but after things quiet down, people tend to forget.

On May 24, 2022, at Robb elementary in Uvalde Texas, 19 children and 2 adults were murdered, and the information is sketchy on how many children were injured. The information from a press conference held by the Governor and police officials keeps changing, and again who can the community trust?

In Buffalo, New York on Saturday May 14, 2022, at a local supermarket, 13 people were shot, 3 people survived and federal authorities are investigating as a hate crime. The gunman, 18-year-old Peyton Gendron who is White, drove three hours to ensure he would kill Black people. Mr. Gendron was apprehended on the scene and charged with first –degree murder.

Mass shootings and killings are on the rise in America, and this year there has been 213 mass shootings so far. Mass shootings are defined as incidents in which at least four people were shot or killed in America, according to the Gun Violence Archives. In 2021, 692 mass shooting were recorded in comparison to 610 over the course of 2020.

According to these figures, there are almost 2 mass shootings every day, and they can happen anywhere. The Republicans will want every American to think if we get more guns in circulation, things will get better. This kind of thinking is backward and wrong, and Congress has failed to pass any major gun control legislature.

In America there are 450 million guns in circulation legally, and there are millions of illegal guns in circulation as well. If America is serious about lowering gun violence, it must limit the number of citizens with guns. When American citizens don’t have guns to settle problems, they will find a more humane way to resolve issues.

Other countries had mass shooting issues, and then they changed their gun laws.  Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Norway tightened gun restrictions and gun violence plummeted. It was not easy and there was controversy, but democracy and the people prevailed.

In America, Democracy is losing because a minority of conglomerates controls the decisions of Congress. When Americans understand the power of their vote, things will change, because if the will of the people is not followed, the legislators will be thrown out of office.

“Still, the record is clear, confirmed by reams of studies that have analyzed the effect of policies like Britain’s and Australia’s: When countries tighten gun control laws, it leads to fewer guns in citizens’ hands, which leads to less gun violence – and to fewer mass shootings,” says Max Fisher – New York Times.
