Historical: National Future Farmers Organization Votes In Its First Black Female President

Another history has been made in the country!
When ‘Future Farmers of America,’ organization carried out its recent election, it never intended to make any history whatsoever—rather what it only aimed was: let the best candidate win.
A student at California State University has just entered into American records after she became the first Black woman to be voted in as the president of the ‘Future Farmers of America’ group.
Fellow delegates recently voted in favor of an agricultural education major—Breanna Holbert—to the coveted position at the ‘2017 National FFA Convention & Expo,’ in Indianapolis, according to the organization’s announcements.
Holbert is now officially one of six Black Americans to hold a national office.
She is following in the foot-
steps of the like of Fred McClure—the first African American national FFA officer who was elected in 1974—and Corey Flournoy, the first African American national FFA president who was elected in 1994.
And just like any other person in her situation, Holbert did not hide her gratitude to those who contributed to her incredible life achievement.
“This jacket and this experience of a lifetime, for me, is nothing without the mentor, family, friends, and advisors who have loved me and guided me without question,” Holbert wrote in a heartfelt post shared on Instagram. “You are the reason why I’m here today. I am extremely blessed.”
Founded in 1928, The FFA organization, is primarily devoted to making a positive contribution to the students’ lives by “developing their potential for personal growth, career success, and premier leadership, through agricultural education,” as per its website.
And as a national officer, Holbert will now commit to one year of service, traveling for more than 100,000 miles to link with the FFA members, education officials, teachers, corporate sponsors and the like.
Holbert was not the only one elected during the recent event. Five other students were also elected to represent the nation-wide organization as national officers—filling the roles of secretary and the vice presidents for the western, central, southern, and eastern, regions.
“Together, Holbert and her crew will help in telling the story of FFA, agricultural education and also create awareness around personal growth, a premier leadership, and career success,” said Mark Poeschl—the CEO of the ‘National FFA Organization.’ “[The team has the leadership skills and qualities to lead our organization during the coming year.”
Seeing such great things happen to out black girls, it just gives us another reason to join hands, and shout “#BlackGirlMagic.”
