I lost my mind

      Recently I thought I was losing my mind.

My friend John Thrasher was seeking to become president of Florida State University and I did all I could to help him accomplish his goal.

I thought I could get a job at the school that recruited me to come to Florida and subsequently get a nice retirement package with considerable benefits.

I would never beg Thrasher for a job consideration so I asked a friend to inform Thrasher that I was available and would be glad to work with him at FSU for at least a 12 month time period.

The friend responded to me and said I should ask a former legislator for help with Thrasher instead of asking my friend.

Then, I came to my senses!

When God gives you a task, you must do what God wants you to do. You must make your journey; you must go on the mission God intends for you to take. And, you must fulfill your destiny.

God knows who you are and God knows what you are and it doesn’t matter what haters think, it doesn’t matter what devils think and it really doesn’t matter what you think!

Let me share a story with you.

The Bible says one day Jesus decided to travel to Jericho and a man named Zachaeus was determined to see Jesus.

Zachaeus was hated by many people in Jericho but the Romans ruling Jericho loved him because Zachaeus helped the Romans rip off the people.

Zachaeus went to the area that Jesus was supposed to pass but he couldn’t see anything because Zachaeus was tall in terms of his bank roll but he was short in stature. To get a better view, he climbed up a sycamore tree.

When Jesus came down the road he looked up and saw Zachaeus in the tree and said, “Zachaeus, come here. I’m going to stay at your house tonight.”

It didn’t matter how much Zachaeus was hated. Jesus knew that but he also knew Zachaeus’ name even though he had never met him and he knew exactly what he wanted and needed Zachaeus to do.

In my case, during my mental lapse, I felt I should get a job at FSU. I ignored the gift that God gave me and also ignored what God wanted me to do with my life.

When I recovered I realized that God gave me the talent to communicate and I must use the gift that God gave me.

If my friend wants to surround himself with losing politicians whose only attributes are their desire and ability to be educational puppets that can be controlled, I can see why. I may or may not be considered for a position at the school where I earned my Masters Degree in Science, where I won national awards in my profession and where I did so much to help, students, faculty people in the university and North Florida community.

In the past I have complained about my professional status and people that cared about me always put me in check.

They would say, “Yes, there are people that have bigger houses, better cars and perhaps more money than you but what state worker can say the things you say, do the things you do or travel to the places around the globe that you go to where you are loved, appreciated and respected?”

If I get a job and a retirement check it will be good. If I don’t, it will be great also.

We should all be thankful and happy to be able to overcome the hate and still be successful in the eyes of God!

I am blessed. Every day I wake up God has blessed me.

Every university employee has a job but I don’t need a job to pay my bills or to feel wanted and needed.

When I focus on myself and what I can do instead of being concerned what others will do for me. I think I’m exactly where I need to be.

For a minute I lost my mind thinking about a retirement check but when you work with God you already have the best job you can ever have!
