In the 124-year history of Prince Hall Origin Masonry of Florida, there has never been a man to take the office of Worship Master so young. However, on Sunday May 16th, 2021 all that will change, when the officers and members will conduct a Public Installation Service for Ederick Enrico Johnson.
Ederick, who is 29, was elected to serve as Worshipful Master of New Era Lodge No. 60 PHO, the highest office you can hold in the local Lodge. He is the past 1st Vice President of the NAACP Youth and College Division of Florida and is currently an active member of the Fort Lauderdale Branch where Marsha Ellison serves as President.
Ederick, an openly Gay Minister, hails from Bradenton, Florida, is a 2011 graduate of Manatee High School. He made his journey south to attend Florida Memorial University where he majored in Social Science with a minor in Philosophy. In 2017 he enrolled into the Miami Dade School of Mortuary Science. Currently he is employed with the Florida Department of Health where he is the MSM (Men who sleep with Men) Coordinator.
Johnson has been a mason since 2012 and has served in many capacities in the order. Currently, he is the Grand Lodge Secretary.
The Installation weekend will kick off with a Day of Service. The Lodge along with friends will be cleaning up a street in Miami Gardens that was adopted by Ladies of Dignity No. 31 OES. This project will be collaboration with other community organizations including TAS (The Academia Society), Ladies of Dignity OES No. 31, The Rapha Center, and the John G. Hilton Youth Court. The clean up will take place at 3201 NW 185th St Miami, FL at 8:30 a.m. There will be a special appearance from the City of Miami Gardens Elected Officials
Sunday May 16, 2021 is the official Installation/ Ecumenical Service. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, spacing is limited, temperature checks will be done prior to entering, and mask must be worn. The service will take place at Sunshine Cathedral 1480 SW Ninth Avenue, Florida, 33315. The speaker of the hour will be Rev Dr. Frank Kennedy,
Executive Pastor of New Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Music will be rendered by Minister John Muschett & Divine Voices of Praise. The Honorable William T. Hill, Past Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Zerubbabel Grand Lodge AF&AM of Maryland, will conduct the Installation.
New Era Lodge No. 60 is under the Jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Meridian Grand Lodge of Florida PHO F&AYM. The Grand Lodge is under the leadership of Miami Gardens Native, The Honorable Cleon Williams who serves as Grand Master.
