    Harris for Florida

Recently, state Representative Gallop Franklin II, former North Florida Congressman Allen Boyd, and Floridians insured through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) hosted a press conference in Tallahassee highlighting the Vice President’s New Way Forward plan to lower health care costs and strengthen the ACA which 45 million Americans rely on, including 4.2 million Floridians — and a record number who signed up for ACA marketplace coverage this year. The press conference follows Donald Trump’s pledge during the debate that he will repeal the Affordable Care Act.

On Tuesday, Vice President Harris called out Trump’s comments, saying he’s going to “end the Affordable Care Act…based on a concept and take us back to when insurance companies had the power to deny people with pre-existing conditions.” Florida is one of 10 states that has not expanded Medicaid — despite that doing so would extend health care coverage to hundreds of thousands of Floridians..

Trump has called the ACA “lousy” and has promised to “terminate” it as part of his Project 2025 agenda. Aspresident, Trump repeatedly tried to cut Medicare and repeal the ACA. In stark contrast, Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are fighting to lower prescription drug costs, strengthen the ACA and ensure every Floridian can access the health care they need.

“Let’s be clear, we know exactly what Trump’s plans are. He has publicly promised that if he is reelected, he would ‘terminate’ the ACA. This wouldn’t be the first time he tries to do so. As president, Trump repeatedly tried to cut Medicare and get rid of the ACA. While he was just one vote short last time, if he is reelected, he has a plan to make good on his promise – as part of his Project 2025 agenda” said state Representative Gallop Franklin II. “Vice President Kamala Harris is offering a New Way Forward where costs are lower for families – including health care costs – and where critical programs like the ACA and Medicare are stronger.”

“Donald Trump and Republicans don’t have an answer, a plan, a solution, or even a clue of what to do. They intend to take our nation backward — to a place where millions of Americans were unsure of how they would afford a visit to the doctor, an emergency appendectomy, treatment of a broken bone — things that happen every single day,” said former Congressman Allen Boyd. “It’s imperative that we keep the Affordable Care Act to continue to make it better and better every year — and only Vice President Kamala Harris has a vision to make that happen.”

“When I retired from 30 years of state service in 2012, the insurance that the state offered had a premium of $1,600 a month. My monthly pension was $2,100, leaving me and my family to survive off of $500 a month — not easy. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, I found insurance on the marketplace for less than half of what I was paying. I benefited immensely because of the Affordable Care Act — and if Donald Trump gets reelected, I don’t know how I would have paid for my health insurance or my doctor visits,” said ACA recipient Amy Datz. “Vice President Harris showed me on the debate stage exactly how she’ll be as president – someone who puts the American people first. When we elect her and Governor Walz, they will continue fighting to protect my health care, lower drug costs even more, and make it easier for every Floridian to get the care they need.”
