‘Major and Minor Prophets were of equal importance’

Question: What is the difference between a Major and a Minor Prophet?

Answer: There is no difference between a Major and a Minor Prophet. A true prophet can be defined as one who speaks only as the word of God comes to them. A false prophet is one who delivers a message of his own devising. There are four Major Prophets and twelve Minor prophets. The Major Prophets in the Bible are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel. The Minor Prophets are Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. The labels “major and minor” mean the length of the prophecy recorded. For instance, the Book of Isaiah is much longer than Amos or Joel. The length of books written does not determine the value of what God is saying. The Major and Minor Prophets were of equal importance. The prophet’s job was to deliver a message to Israel’s future life as fulfilled by Christ. I believe that we are living in these days.

Each prophet received a prophetic message from God that was tailored specifically for him. In Ezekiel 1:16, the prophet saw a ‘Wheel within a wheel’ and in the 1st chapter in Jonah the prophet received a message from God, in which Jonah chooses to run from God. Behold, a great fish swallowed Jonah. There are 17 books (prophetical books) that will engulf the very essence of the mind and spirit with awe. Get involved with a Spiritual based Bible study group.
