Extended hours and walk-ins make scheduling mammograms easy

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Early detection is key to helping the more than 200,000 women who are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

In recognition of breast cancer awareness month in October, Broward Health is celebrating its sixth year of MAMMOPALOOZA, a fun, month-long event that provides extended opportunities for mammograms and breast cancer education at all Broward Health hospitals. Through extended hours and enhanced awareness.

MAMMOPALOOZA appointments include a mammography screening and review by North Broward radiologists. Weekend and evening hours are available, and most insurance is accepted. Self-pay is $115 by cash or credit card. Everyone who has a mammogram will receive a special gift.

Here are a few  events happening throughout MAMMOPALOOZA.

Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 12:30 p.m. – Seasoned Saints Program

The Seasoned Saints program at New Hope Baptist Church is an education program for seniors. Dr. Renee Alexis, medical director of the Lillian S. Wells Women’s Health Center at Broward Health Medical Center, will speak on women’s issues and breast cancer awareness. For more information, call (954) 463-2192.

Saturday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Glam Doll Strut

Esplanade Park, Fort Lauderdale — Welcome to the hip-pest stiletto extravaganza to hit the streets of Fort Lauderdale. Thousands of men, women, kids and even pets will descend on Southwest Second Street wearing some of the most fashion-able, fabulous and innovative attire imaginable. Tuesday, Oct.  21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Mad Hatter’s Tea

Thursday, Oct. 23 at 11:15 a.m. – Senior Ministry Luncheon

The Adult Activity Center at First Presbyterian Church welcomes Dr. Nicolas Tranakas, medical director of cancer services at Broward Health Medical Center, to speak on the latest advances in breast cancer. For cost are to RSVP, call (954) 598-9344.

Broward Health will offer a discounted rate and extended hours so that all women can receive their annual mammogram during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Appointments recommended, but walk-ins welcome. For more information, call (954) 759-7500 or visit

Throughout October, Brighton Collectibles will hold its annual “Power for Pink” campaign, where they will sell their signature jewelry fundraising bracelet. A portion of the sale for each piece will be donated to the Lisa Boccard Breast Cancer Fund to help women in need obtain free mammograms. For more information, call (954) 968-2383.
