More than two months after Nolan Wells was found dead on Mississippi’s Horn Island, questions surrounding the 18-year-old’s death remain unanswered.
Nancy Grace revisited Wells’ case in a Wednesday (September 9) episode of Crime Stories, questioning the circumstances of his death and the lack of publicly released investigative findings.
“There have been zero Horn Island drownings in six straight years,” Grace said at the start of the segment. “Why now am I supposed to believe that Nolan Wells is the only one that accidentally drowned off Horn Island in going on seven years? Is that statistically probable?”
Grace also questioned how Wells’ body ended up on shore two days after he was last seen.
“Two months later and there are still too many unanswered questions in the #NolanWells case,” she wrote in the caption of a clip shared Thursday (September 10).
“How did he just appear in that location two days later?” Grace asks in the clip, while also questioning the lack of public updates from law enforcement, the district attorney’s office and the grand jury.
A second clip focuses on Wells’ toxicology report.
“‘Toxicology does not take that long,’” reads the caption accompanying the video, which features Grace and forensic death investigator Joseph Scott Morgan discussing the delay and what the results could show.
Morgan said toxicology results should be available by now, explaining that testing can use blood, urine, vitreous humor from the eye and tissue samples.
Grace also said she heard from sources that cocaine was not found in Wells’ system. BIN has not independently verified that claim and an official toxicology report has not been publicly released.
Wells was reported missing July 4 after traveling with friends to Horn Island, about 10 miles off the Mississippi Coast. His body was found two days later.
The official state autopsy has been completed, but its findings have not been publicly released.
No one has been charged in connection with Nolan’s death, and the investigation into Wells’ death remains active and ongoing.
Grace questioned the lack of updates from authorities, asking why the public has heard so little from officials.
“Why are we hearing nothing from law enforcement? Nothing from the DA. Nothing from the grand jury. Nothing from nobody,” Grace said. “Do they think we’re just going to forget about the Nolan Wells case? Because that is not going to happen.”
