Nunnie on the Sideline

The talk this weekend was the non-competitive, defenseless NBA All-Star game and the desultory Slam Dunk contest held in Indianapolis. Many critics and pundits are calling for the end of the game along with the dunk contest and the Friday Rising Stars experiment featuring first and second year players. Therefore, it behooves the commissioner and his cabinet to find solutions to palpable, existential challenges and concerns. I don’t understand the sudden public exasperation since NBA All-Star games have been void of real competition for several years. It’s also conceivable that the creativity bank of ideas so germane to the Slam Dunk Contest  has been exhausted without human or inanimate props. One certainty is that money isn’t the answer as NBA players are some of the highest paid athletes in professional sports. However, we are assured that changes must occur if the league is to maintain fan interest and public support. Apparently, the highlight of the weekend was the 3-point competition that featured Sabrina Ionescu against Step Curry, real competition with an uncertain conclusion. Step won 29-26. Damien Lillard won both the game MVP and 3-point shooting contest, matching Michael Jordan’s ‘88 performance.

The Florida Panthers hockey team has won 11 consecutive games,  sweeping in-state rival Tampa Bay Lightning in a 3 game series, possess a 35-14-6 overall record and are leading the Eastern Conference of the NHL. It appears that they are positioned to make a run at the Stanley Cup.

Nazis marching in Nashville is another indication of the importance of this election. Everyone who cares about democracy must get involved!
