The former HUD Secretary evoked the Bible when describing Trump. Because, why not?

     By Jessica Washington

After years of relative silence, former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson is proving he’s still as out of pocket as ever.

On Fox News Monday night, Carson compared former President Donald Trump to the biblical King of Judah and ancient Israel, King David. An underdog, David later became a King. To this day, he is one of the most iconic figures in the Bible. Obviously, the anchors of Fox News are used to hearing some…controversial opinions. But this hot take seemed to catch anchor Neil Cavuto off-guard.

During a back and forth over Trump’s “personal behavior,” Carson said on Monday to “think about the Bible and King David.”

“Most of those people probably, if they were alive back in those days, would say, ‘Oh, what a horrible guy,’ you know, the episode with Bathsheba,” he said, referencing a biblical story where David sleeps with the wife of one of his soldiers, Uriah the Hittite, he then has Uriah killed.

“God uses different people for different times,” said Carson.

The comments came at a time in which the United States’ relationship with Israel is under scrutiny because of Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas. Carson endorsed the former president in October.

Cavuto pressed him about the King comparison, to which Carson said, “I don’t know about ‘king,’ but certainly he has some policies that are very worthwhile.”

For anyone following Carson’s presidential run and his subsequent appointment to Trump’s cabinet, none of this is particularly new: He has a knack for spontaneously busting into the most incomprehensible game of Mad Libs at any second.

The famed neurosurgeon once compared believing in the separation of church and state to schizophrenia, so bringing the Bible into politics is not the craziest thing he’s ever done.
