From the Family

In 1992 we heard about one of our local students who graduated with honors from Boyd Anderson High school located in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida. Heather received many scholastic honors, one of which was the ‘Who’s Who in American High Schools’.

Heather is the daughter of William (Step father now deceased) and Dorothy Glass (Mother  resides in Port St. Lucie, FL). “We lost track of Heather because she has been busy serving her country”, stated her mother.

Heather has worked in several positions with the U.S Marshall’s office for 24yrs under the Department of Justice.  She has worked in Miami, Seattle, Virginia and the nation’s capital Washington, DC.

Heather Walker began her career in 1996 as a candidate in the Centralized Student Career Experience Program while attending Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida. Upon graduating with honors and receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice, she attended Basic Deputy United States Marshal Training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). After graduation from FLETC in 1997, she became a Deputy U.S. Marshal and was assigned to The District of New Jersey. Throughout her career, she has worked in various leadership capacities within the USMS.

Heather was recruited while in college at Florida A&M University by Marshal Larkley along with other classmates. She has now been appointed, something  she considers her greatest  accomplishment, as the first female and the first African American female Director of Professional Development Services where she will be working with the internal affairs department.

She has quietly moved through the circles of government pursuing her career. It has taken hard-work and perseverance to receive such an appointment and she has indeed made history.

She resides in Maryland along with her family.

“When I spoke to my daughter, I told her how proud I am for her. My daughter is a very humble person. She said to me “mother I love my country and I love my family. I want to leave footprints of my life for my children and other women who are up for the challenge.”

“I’ve always said to my daughter that your achievements are unlimited and let this position not stop you from doing anything else your heart desires”.

In 2007 as a General Operations Supervisor in Miami, Florida, Heather successfully demonstrated strong leadership by balancing continuity while instituting change for overall prisoner related court procedures.

In 2011 as a Senior Inspector in the Judicial Security Division , she provided training to judges and judicial officials on security measures, authored two court & judicial security related articles in a national law enforcement and court security publication, presented court and personal security information to more than one hundred judicial officers, international police officers and other security related professionals.

In 2015 as an Assistant Chief, Prisoner Operations Division she was the linchpin during the early development of the Guard Service Pro-gram and was afforded the opportunity to lead the process to improve policies, procedures and oversight mechanisms for acquiring and employing guard services for prisoner security.

In 2017 as Chief Office of Security Programs Tactical Operations Division, she served as the Security Program Manager (SPM) for the USMS. As the SPM she determined the suitability and security approvals for public trust positions and made the final decision for granting security approvals for national security clearances to USMS employees in addition to a host of other security related duties.

In 2019 as Deputy Assistant Director for the Tactical Operations Division, she was committed to leading the way in crisis response, organizational sustainability, and outstanding tactical operations in the face of law enforcement and natural disaster challenges that con-fronted the United States.

On September 27, 2020 she was selected as Assistant Director for the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). In OPR she will be charged with ensuring accountability and integrity of United States Marshals Service programs, personnel, and financial activities.

Ms. Walker holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Florida A&M University, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Florida International University and a Master of Professional Studies in Safety and Security Leadership from The George Washington University.

She considers her greatest accomplishment to be her role as a servant leader dedicated to the professional development and well-being of those she leads.

“I will say we haven’t heard the last from Heather. She has expressed other goals for the future. I sit in amazement of what her new goals are. I wish to thank my family and friends who have prayed and stood with us wishing us well in all of Heather’s achievements”.–Dorothy Glass.
