Cases of peanut butter and jelly were presented to community agencies to help feed the needy and hungry in Fort Lauderdale. Pictured above are Sandra Gruber and Cheryl Uhl of The South Florida Hunger Coalition, along with Vicky Gointor of Meals on Wheels accepting cases of peanut butter and jelly from Kiwanis of Central Broward, Jennings Coleman, President; members, and supporters of Kiwanis of Central Broward donated the peanut butter and jelly to help feed the hungry.

As a popular sandwich eaten daily by children and adults around the world, the peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a food that never seems to go out of style. The peanut butter and jelly sandwich was created in 1901 as a delicacy served in New York City’s finest tearooms. It later became popular with children and adults. The sandwich was served as a staple meal in World War II.

It is said that the popular peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich provides 27 percent of a person’s Recommended Daily Intake of fat and 22 percent of their calories. It has been reported that most of the calories come from monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which have positive links with heart health.
