POMPANO BEACH, Fl – The City of Pompano Beach recently honored hometown rap artist Kodak Black with a key to the city in recognition of his charitable contributions and ongoing support for the community.
Mayor Rex Hardin, City Manager Greg Harrison, and other officials joined in presenting the honor to Kodak Black, whose legal name is Bill Kahan Kapri. A native of Pompano Beach and of Haitian descent, Kapri has been involved in various philanthropic efforts throughout South Florida and beyond.
In 2019, he donated $10,000 to the Jack and Jill Children’s Center, an organization dedicated to early childhood education. That same year, he provided funds to Paradise Childcare in Broward County to supply holiday gifts for 150 local children, along with a $5,000 donation to support their annual Christmas celebration.
Kapri also shared plans to build a school in Haiti, reflecting his commitment to giving back to his roots.
While the rapper is known for hits like “No Flockin,” his career has also been marked by legal issues, including arrests for drug possession and probation violations. He was recently released from federal custody after serving time for a supervised release violation.
Despite these challenges, city officials acknowledged his positive impact and efforts to uplift his community.
