Publicity stunt? New York mayor announces competition for young Black and Latino boys

    From Your Black World

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Linda I. Gibbs, Young Men’s Initiative Director Jahmani Hylton and Ashoka Changemakers

President Diana Wellshave launched “My Voice, Our City: What Will You Do?,” an online competition encouraging Black and Latino young men to offer ideas that could help reduce racial and ethnic disparities in New York City.

It’s ironic that they mayor, who is heavily criticized for his stop and frisk policy that sends thousands of Black men to jail, would be releasing this type of program. Critics say that if Mayor Bloomberg really wants to help Black and brown men, he would stop trying to get them all locked up over a bag of weed.
