NEW ORLEANS, LA. — Florida A&M tennis defeats the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 4-1 to advance to their second straight Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship.
The Rattlers started hot, winning the doubles point. Sara Rakim and Genesis Whitelock won the first doubles match 6-2, and Sierra Sandy and Larissa Silva won 7-5 to give the Rattlers an early 1-0 lead.
Rakim picked up where she left off, dominating her singles match, winning 6-1,6-0. Sandy followed Rakim, winning 6-3,6-1 to give the Rattlers a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs battled back, as Susan Salinas lost her match 6-1, 6-3. Whitelock ended any chance of a comeback as she clinched the match, winning 6-2, 6-3.
The Rattlers will face two-seed Alabama State in the championship match. The Rattlers swept Alabama State 4-0 in the regular season.
