NEW YORK, NY — Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), issued the following statement on the executive order on policing signed at the White House today in the presence of George Floyd’s family.
The Executive Order is an important first step, and the President made a strong statement today along with a challenge for the Senate to make this law. I reminded the President how in Houston he told George Floyd’s daughter, Gianna, with us in the room, that her dad would change the world. Today I brought her up to sit in his seat, and he gave her the pen he used to sign the Executive Order. I told Gianna that he was running for President when he made this promise, and now he is President and the pen he gave her means that promise was kept.”
