RIVIERA BEACH, FL — In response to the urgent need for workforce housing, Riviera Beach is launching a significant new initiative. Alfred Fields Jr., president of the Alpha Educational Foundation at the Judge Rodgers Center for Community Development, and Councilman and Board Chairperson Douglas Lawson, announced the plans for a new 140-unit workforce housing development.

The Judge Rodgers Center, located in the 200 block of West 11th Street, serves as a hub for nonprofit organizations providing essential resources to the community, including a food pantry operating twice a week. “We service everyone that comes through,” Fields emphasized. “Regardless of what they look like or what they’re driving, it’s about helping those in need.”

Fields, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., also highlighted their longstanding Men of Tomorrow program, which has been mentoring high school students for 35 years.

The new housing development, situated near the Marina and the Port of Palm Beach, is a collaboration between the city’s housing authority and the Alpha Foundation. “Affordable housing is vital,” Lawson stated. “We partnered with the housing authority to provide the land and resources needed for this project, ensuring our residents have a place to live within their community.”

The agreement was commemorated by members of the fraternity earlier this week. Lawson pointed out that Riviera Beach has the second lowest median income in Palm Beach County, making affordable housing essential for its residents. Officials also confirmed that the Judge Rodgers Center will be rebuilt alongside the new housing development, ensuring continued access to community services.
