Senate Republicans Play Legislative Games and Still Lose

During an American crisis, everyone in the country should pull together and solve the problems collectively. But, in 2021 the opposite is happening in the Republican Party, and they are the party of no. Where millions of families are going hungry on a daily basis, and 10 million don’t have jobs, the Republican Party doesn’t seem to care.  Even though, they go around calling themselves the working men and women party, somewhere there appears to be a big lie.

As many children go to bed hungry, the Senate Republicans are playing games with procedures, and bills, which make no sense. Eighty percent (80%) of Americans support President Biden’s American Rescue $1.9 trillion Plan, but the Senate Republicans are looking to find ways and procedures to obstruct and delay the passing of the bill.

Reconciliation is a nasty word, and a procedure being used by the Democrats to get President Biden’s American Rescue Plan passed in the Senate. Instead of 60 votes to pass a bill, only 51 is needed to pass this bill. Since both parties have 50 votes, Vice-President Harris will break the tie with her vote. This can only happen twice a year.

Wikipedia states, “The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 is a $1.9 trillion economic stimulus package proposed by President Joe Biden to speed up the United States’ recovery from the economic and health effects of Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing recession. He plans to pass this as one of his first bills into law through the 117th Congress.”

Instead of the Republicans working with the Democrats to pass an overwhelmingly popular bill, they have decided to oppose and obstruct the bill at every turn. They are acting like children who are spoiled, and can’t eat candy before their dinner, so they refuse to eat anything. The Republicans have no plan, so they prefer to act like spoiled children.

Not only do the federal Republicans legislators act like angry, spoiled children,  the governors in Texas, Mississippi, and other states are getting ready to open up their states at 100%. As fewer citizens are infected or die with the virus, the governors should follow the rules of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and continue with the mask mandates.

“The governors of Texas and Mississippi both announced on Tuesday March 2, 2021, they would be lifting their states’ mask mandates and rolling back many of their Covid-19 health mandates, just one day after the CDC warned against complacency in the face of emerging coronavirus variants,” says Tim Fitzsimons –reporter at NBC News.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky strongly cautioned against the very rollbacks that governors Abbott and Reeves were about to implement. “I am really worried about reports that more states are rolling back the exact public health measures we have recommended to protect people from Covid-19.  People hear me clearly. At this level of cases with variants spreading, we stand to completely lose the hard- earned ground we have gained,” says Director Walensky.

It is very difficult to understand the thinking of Republicans on the federal, state, and local levels. But, after the Senate Republicans played games, delaying the process, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 was passed in the Senate on Saturday, March 6, 2021. The vote was 50 Democrats to 49 Republicans.

“President Joe Biden praised the Senate’s passage of his $1.9 trillion Covid-19 relief plan on Saturday, calling it ‘one more giant step’ on promises he made on the campaign trail to send aid and to help millions of Americans suffering from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic,” says Ledyard King – USA Today.

America is ecstatic, and change is coming to improve the life of millions with the passage of the American Rescue Plan. The House of Representatives must vote to approve the changes in the Senate plan, and the bill will end up on the president’s desk to sign.

Innovative, progressive, and creative thinking has allowed America to lead the world. Unity and working together makes America strong, stand out in the world and the country, and reminds us all of our greatness.
