The Sons of Allen of Mt. Hermon A.M.E. Church of Fort Lauderdale, where Rev. Henry E. Green, Jr. is the senior pastor, has partnered with Broward Health Community Services to sponsor a men’s Health Fair. The event will take place at Mt. Hermon in the Family Life Center, 404 N.W. Seventh Terr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Saturday September 21, 2019 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This event is being held to celebrate Prostate Cancer Awareness throughout the month of September. We’re inviting all men to come out and get a free screening to help prevent the spread of Prostate Cancer in our community. Our theme for this event is “The Best Defense for Prostate Cancer is Knowledge”.
We will have doctors and practitioners on board to screen for HIV, Prostate Cancer, high blood pressure, dental exams, eye exams, etc. at no charge. These services will be free for all men. Also, the BloodOne mobile unit will be on site for donating blood. Donating blood will help save lives of citizens in our own community.
In order to depict our appreciation, Broward Health will sponsor a continental breakfast and the Sons of Allen will sponsor lunch. All you will need is a good appetite.
This is a community event and we’re asking women to bring their grandfather, fathers, husbands, brothers and sons to be screened. We’ve learned over the years, that when a man is suffering, his entire family suffers. Additionally, statistics illustrate that most men die from Prostate Cancer, not because of the disease, but from shame or embarrassment. They are to a shame or too embarrassed to discuss what they are experiencing with others, so they don’t seek professional assistance in time and perish. Getting yourself checked can save your life and provide you with a longer life span .
