LAKELAND, FL — Florida Memorial quarterback Cedquan Smith threw four touchdown passes as the Lions defeated the Southeastern Fire 35-24. This is the first time in program history that an FMU football team has earned a victory at Victory Field.

In the backfield, FMU running back Walter Wilbon led the way with 82 yards on the ground while Smith added 35 rushing yards. In fact, Smith was marvelous all night, carving up the Fire defense to the tune of only nine incomplete passes (24-of-33) for over 200 yards to go along with the four passing touchdowns. In the second quarter, he connected with freshman Jamaal Browder on a 46-yard bomb to give the Lions a 14-10 lead.

FMU wide receiver Frank Bentley IV dominated Southeastern’s defensive backs, producing two touchdown receptions in the contest.

On the defensive end, the Davis boys (no relation) were intense on the gridiron as Iowa State transfer Daeshawn Davis produced a game-high nine tackles while Antwan Davis added eight respectively. A. Davis was so disruptive to the Fire run game as he generated three tackles for loss to go along with two sacks while fellow Lion Kaven Mwikuta finished with two sacks in the win.
FMU defensive back Darius Conley played solid throughout the contest and produced an interception late in the fourth quarter, taking it 26 yards into Fire territory, closing the door on any comeback attempt for Southeastern.

With the victory, Florida Memorial improves to 4-1 in SUN conference competition, earning its best start in conference play in the new era.

The Lions to action on Saturday, Nov. 4 as they travel to Georgia to face Thomas. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. in Thomasville, Ga.
