Perhaps as sincere and open as any other candidate, former Vice President Joseph Biden spoke candidly to the Black Press during an interview in South Carolina with National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) President and CEO Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr.

America represents four percent of the world’s population, yet we detain nearly 25 percent of the world’s incarcerated people. At least 95 percent of people in State prisons today eventually will return to their communities. The new consensus is that we are better served by helping those formerly incarcerated to have the best shot at a second chance, rather than warehousing them and sending them back into our communities without the necessary skills, tools, and sup-port to have a prosperous life.

2016 has started with a bang, and Black America is in a position to build political organizations and alliances across generational and economical demographics. “Black Lives Matter” has energized a younger segment of Black America, which older Black political organizations thought were not engaged or strategically involved.
