Back in August, I wrote that getting âback-to-schoolâ this year would also mean getting back to fighting far-right attacks on education. The threats included a rising number of efforts to ban books, and the Rightâs efforts to take over local school boards.

    AhhâŚI can smell it now. The buttery aroma of black-eyed peas simmering away in Momâs special crockpot as she gears up to stir in a generous helping of rice. Now, if your family is anything like mine, youâre left sitting eagerly until about 7 p.m., when the entire meal is done, to sink your teeth into the traditional staple, but one thingâs for sure. Boy, do we love some black-eyed peas! Itâs a tasty dish youâll find in most Black households during the holiday season. Heck, all year round, if youâre lucky. But why do black moms always feed us black-eyed peas to start the New Year?
