Texas Attorney General threatens to arrest UN observers during election

    Added by bowatkin Kulture Kritic

Don’t mess with Texas, even when you think they’re being corrupt. That’s the message being sent this week by Greg Abbott, the Attorney General for the state, who has clearly stated that he is not going to tolerate the presence of UN observers at polling locations for the presidential election.

Abbott sent a letter to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), warning them that there are going to be legal repercussions for being involved with elections in their state.

“It may be a criminal offense for OSCE’s representatives to maintain a presence within 100 feet of a polling place’s entrance,” he wrote in his letter. “Failure to comply with these requirements could subject the OSCE’s representatives to criminal prosecution for violating state law.”

The OSCE said that it was going to send 44 observers to monitor the voting process here in the United States. The announcement was in response to appeals filed by the NAACP and ACLU, stating that their presence would help prevent voter-suppression efforts by the GOP.  Included in their list of concerns are organized groups that plan to show up to the polls to allegedly challenge votes they don’t believe to be honest, but some say that their goal is to frighten away legitimate votes.

“If OSCE members want to learn more about our election processes so they can improve their own democratic systems, we welcome the opportunity to discuss the measures Texas has implemented to protect the integrity of elections,” Abbott writes. “However, groups and individuals from outside the United States are not allowed to influence or interfere with the election process in Texas. This State has robust election laws that were carefully crafted to protect the integrity of our election system. All persons — including persons connected with OSCE — are required to comply with these laws.”

Abbott’s opposition to the UN is similar to other members of the GOP, who have called for the UN to be entirely defunded and “kicked off American soil.”

“The very idea that the United Nations — the world body dedicated to diminishing America’s role in the world — would be allowed, if not encouraged, to install foreigners sympathetic to the likes of Castro, Chavez, Ahmadinejad and Putin to oversee our elections is nothing short of disgusting,” said GOP  Senatorial candidate Connie Mack.
