Submitted by Jeff Robin

The Southeast Florida division of the American Diabetes Association is challenging local cyclists to dig deep within themselves and untap the determination, strength and courage it takes to participate in the 2013 Tour de Cure®, an annual cycling event to raise money for diabetes, one of the nation’s top 10 leading causes of death.

“Our mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes,” said Jeff Robin, Manager at the American Diabetes Association. Currently, about 26 million Americans are diagnosed with diabetes and 79 million Americans are diagnosed with pre-diabetes.

On March 3, 2013, cyclists from around the region will gather at the Coral Springs Sportsplex and ride one of four routes to participate in the event to raise $250,000 to support research for a cure.

Tour de Cure raises funds through sponsorship, registration fees and pledges collected by the cyclists.  To register for Tour de Cure, cyclists or volunteers can call the local American Diabetes Association office at (954) 772-8040, visit us on the Internet at www.diabetes.org/sfltour or Like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/tdcsouthflorida.

Tour de Cure features a varity of routes. Riders of all ages can take part in 31-, 62- and 100- mile routes along with a Family Fun 10K.
