The Florida Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights Issues Report Regarding Florida Election Code Changes

BROWARD COUNTY, FL.  – Broward County Supervisor of Elections, Joe Scott’s voice is amplified, and his quotes are highlighted in the recent report filed by The Florida Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights issues regarding Florida Election Code changes.

Testimony of Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott, (hearing of Apr. 29, 2022) states “Changes in the laws . . . are now making it more difficult for people to register to vote as well as more difficult for people to actually participate when it comes time to vote.” Supervisor Scott continued testimony under oath includes his views that laws such as SB 90 were likely enacted due to “constant lies about what happened” in the 2020 election.

The report magnifies Florida’s reformed election code, over the past two decades and how it is impacting voters. The recent changes discussed throughout the report include the restrictions placed on vote-by-mail ballots, ballot drop off locations and the impact it will have on voters, among other concerns. The potential intimidation of legally authorized voters resulting from prosecutions within the newly established Office of Election Crimes and Security is also heavily evaluated.

Ensuring voter accessibility is of the utmost priority for the Broward County Supervisor of Elections office. This year, six (6) Permanent SOE Branch Offices were opened. These SOE branch offices are strategically located throughout Broward County to make it easier for residents to register to vote, update voter information, request a Vote-By-Mail ballot, and more.

All Broward County Voters are encouraged to review their voting status via our website or in person at any one of our office locations found here.
