Ben Joseph, Jr., of Flanagan High School in Miramar, is the first selection for the 2022 school year. Ben is a junior defensive back with the Falcons and in spite of a disappointing loss to rival Cypress Bay last week, had a tremendous performance with 3 solo tackles, 2 assists, 2 pass break ups and 1 INt. The lithe 6’1”, 170 pound corner combines speed, quickness, tenacity, knowledge of opponent’s offensive tendencies and toughness to compete on the highest level. He is the son of proud parents Tonya and Ben Joseph of Miramar. His exploits on the gridiron, though commendable, take a back seat to his academic excellence which includes honors/advanced classes, bringing much joy to his parents and family.
Ben began his athletic career at the age of seven playing youth football, but later developed an affinity for soccer. After participating in several football camps, his love and desire to play football returned. Once that decision was made, he devoted himself completely to the game while realizing that participating in track and field could only increase and improved his speed, endurance, quickness and agility, qualities that coaches look for in recruits. When queried about being the captain of a team sport, Ben sees leadership as necessary component, setting the right example which teammates will naturally follow. Regarding team chemistry, getting hyped, excited and having fun as a team will ensure unity and camaraderie. What really gets him pumped though is having the support of his parents and their presence at his games, which has always been the case. With his athletic prowess and academic acumen, the future possibilities are endless. Congrats on being selected the Westside Gazette’s first featured Student/Athlete for the year 2022.
