The annual Black College Hall of Fame Classic each Labor Day weekend features the best Division II programs that Black College Football has to offer and this year’s match-up will be no different.

Two-time defending SIAC champion Benedict College and CIAA Northern Division contender Virginia State will meet Sunday Sept. 1 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame stadium in Canton, Ohio, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced Thursday morning.

Benedict will come into the BCHOF Classic fresh off of back-to-back SIAC championships and undefeated regular seasons and will be led by new head coach Ron Dickerson Jr. following Chennis Berry’s departure to take the job at South Carolina State.

Virginia State finished 2023 8-2, coming in second place in the CIAA North to eventual conference champion Virginia Union.

“The Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic weekend is the premier showcase for all of Northeast Ohio to celebrate the excellence that resides at America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities,” Pro Football Hall of Fame Chief Relationship Officer Adrian Allison said in a statement. “We are excited to welcome Benedict College and Virginia State University’s students, staff, alumni and fans as we honor the legacies of the members of the Black College Football Hall of Fame. This year’s Classic, like the previous four, promises to be a fun-filled weekend capped by a championship-caliber football game.”
